Host 3: Suzanne and Simon

Well, on the last post I said that the next day I would write about my hosts. As usual I didn't keep my promise and waited about 3 days before writing. In this case that is a good thing though, because my first impressions have changed over the last couple days.

First things first, I'm no longer sick. I took lots of decongestant, drank lots of hot honey water, and made tons of disgusting noises to expel the mucus out of my face. Sorry, Tawnie.

Anyways, our hosts. I'll begin with Suzanne. She is around 60 years old but is always go, go, going and is in great shape. She is a competitive dog agility handler, and competes with her border collies, Quinn and Tilley. Her and Quinn have even competed in Nationals, yet she says Tilley is younger and shows more potential. Outside of dog agility competitions, Suzanne keeps 31 other animals: 2 cats, 2 ducks, 1 goose, and 26 chickens. Aside from taking care of the animals she also runs most of the communication side of their accommodation business they run here where we're staying. In total they have 5 apartments that can be rented out by the night.

Suzanne is a talker. When you have a question, you save it for when you're ready for a few minutes of talking. She is also a bit scatterbrained, which is understandable given the amount of things she's juggling. In general she is nice and polite, though she can be very direct and abrasive which can be helpful, you just can't let it rub you the wrong way, because it isn't ever meant to be rude.

Then there is Simon. He takes care of the outside work and helps a little with the business, but it seems to end there. He often goes out on a bike ride instead of doing whatever Suzanne needs him to do. He's often leaving messes behind as well. Instead of socializing with us, he goes up to his man attic and listens to bad radio and watches sports. When you do try to communicate with him he either kind of ignores you, or begins talking for amazingly long periods of time. He also has an issue with his throat, so eating takes him a very long time - especially when he's feeling extra talkative.

Overall though, they aren't half bad. Suzanne pretty much is our boss and we have learned to just steer clear of Simon. She always let's us know she appreciates us and acknowledges a job well done - which is important for a millennial like myself! But, like I said in the last post, they are no Denis and Perrine. The accommodations make up for it though, and we're still eating plentiful healthy dinners. I also really enjoy the chickens and Suzanne has been a wealth of information about how to raise them.

I'm planning to post about the work we're doing here, and a post about the fantastic hike I just went on. If there's anything else you're curious about then please comment, let me know, and I'll do my best to appease you.

Here are some chickens on my porch.
